I don't know if anyone's really heard about it.. but on Monday or so, some scientists have been finding some CRAZY new species of sea animals in the Tasman Sea (near Austrailia/ New Zealand.) They've been keeping a log and some photos and descriptions of what they have been finding, and its pretty damn interesting. Plus, the describe everything like a normal person would (with a hint of science), so it makes it much cooler to read.

I love these deep-sea fish stories as much as I love Giant Squid stories. My personal favorite so far is the Jewel Squid just because they have "wonky eyes." I have no idea what "wonky" is, but it's my new favorite word! Wee!

Edit: Animal pictures/ descriptions are in the Creature Feature section.

Cool!...some of those fish are hella funky looking...but I suppose living in the deepest depths of the ocean isn't any sort of beauty contest...

I love fish/oceanography/sea stuff...it's so interesting.

I'm not feeling eloquent today.

i used to have this great fascination with robert ballard (the oceanographer, he's the one that found the titanic) & his work...in his autobiography there are all these cool pictures of underwater lava formations and galapagos tube worms. very cool stuff.

the strange thing about my former obsession with all this ocean stuff is that i'm terrified of boats. swimming i'm okay with, and boating in enclosed areas (ponds, lakes) but get me out on open water and i flip out.

Deep-sea fish are always the craziest looking ones. Especially the angular fishes with the crazy flashlight over it's head.

Daaavid. If you lived in the deepest depth of your apartment, you'd need to evolve and grow some crazy flashlight or have some wonky eyes or something.

Incidentally, there's this giant blob of either giant squid or whale blubber lying around in Chile.
