I'm guessing you guys probably have heard about this website by now, and if you haven't, chances are you will sooner or later since the site is pretty much turning into the new Makeoutclub. Let me try and explain what it is since it can be confusing at first... basically it's a website that allows you to put up a profile of yourself (ala MOC), but it's more discriptive than that... it shows your age, your location and hometown, your interests, favorite music, movies and books, a section for you to write a bio of yourself and what kind of people you want to meet, and the option to use it for dating or serious relationship, or just friends. It also allows you to have 5 photos instead of just one (it used to allow as many as you want, but now they limited it to just 5, probably because of too much bandwith on the site I guess). Once you have a profile written out, you invite your friends to join your personal friend network, or you can add people as friends to your friends page (ala LiveJournal), and on your friends page it shows their name and photo. With that, you have access to your friends' friends pages, and you can see how you're connected to each person through other people, and anyone from your personal network can write testimonials telling other people about you. It's basically a way to see all your friends' friends, but unlike LiveJournal or MOC, you can only view people in YOUR personal network and its not viewable to the public if they aren't connected to you somehow.

I was invited to join up at the beginning of March by this guy Mike I had just met, and at first I didn't understand it at all, but it seemed kinda cool so I joined. For about 3 weeks I only had him, and my friends Emily and Christine on my friends page and didn't pay much attention to it really. Then another friend of mine IMed me one day inviting me to join, and I told him I was already on there. So I go to add him as a friend and check his profile, and low and behold, there were now a whole bunch of people I knew on the site. Basically the site has become the new hot thing I guess, and every single day I find more and more people I know on it.

I can see how eventually the site is probably going to become old and overrated much like MOC has become, but it definitely has its perks. I know way too many people for my own good and its helping to keep track of how many people I actually know, plus its cool to check out what people you hardly know are into and see what other people have to say about them. And honestly, its kind of a self-esteem booster seeing your friends and people you know write nice things about you.

lipstickandcigarettes.com is the new make out club. but it's been around for a while. and now since there's so many people on they let people vote pending users on or off.

also, i think friendster is HORRIBLE. i'm on it anyway but it still sucks and it's slow. it's also kind of like a popularity contest. i mean the boards on "moc" and "lnc" can be kind of popularity contests at time. but friendster is more of a popularity contest than those two sites, the only difference is that there is more of a variety of types of people.

but it's always good for me to show people the freaks in seattle and laugh at them.

Hmmm well I can definitely see the whole popularity contest part... I don't use it for that purpose but I can see how people will. I know people on there with over 300 friends and thats just sickening... at the same time though, I have been meeting more people from it then I ever did when I was on MOC. As for the whole site being slow, yeah that sucks and its annoying but its mainly because the site is so popular right now. LiveJournal used to be really fucking slow 2 years ago when it began gaining popularity, and that was fixed eventually.

livejournal isn't less slow now because of lack of populartiy or anything. they put a restriction on how many times you can post a day and a few other things (i am assuming other things have restrictions). and as far as meeting people from friendster goes. all the people in seattle suck, so i suppose that has to do with my location and not the site. but i guess i'll figure that out the next time i move.
