I don't think you are crazy. If your life was in the shitter, you might as well make a new start. Good luck with everything.

well, kristin, the other option is to drop out of school (doing that anyways) cause i cant afford to go anymore, and work full time.

doing this, i get paid, have a career, AND get an education, and get a lot of money to do so.

in that respect, its almost the perfect decision.

im not all super military, and the job i have works more with intel than actual combat, its just that this is really one of the only choices i have in my life right now.

otherwise, i wouldnt be able to afford my apartment, car or anything else. id lose everything. this way, i wont have to.

Somtimes what might seem like an un-optimal deal/situation will actually work out in your favor...I'm sure this is one of those times...Good luck...

...besides chick hella dig on guys in uniform ...and just think, you may even get stationed in Europe or the far east where they have good cars...

this is what im thinking. im going into it optimistically.

and yeah, that whole uniform thing is a plus.

and as for being stationed overseas, as a linguist, thats basically assured. ill probably start in the middle east or asia, but europe would be well within my grasp.

yeah... and just cause i say that the US isnt the greatest county on earth doesnt mean im anti-US. its just a more realistic approach to looking at the world. thats my beef. idiots who spew shit like "were the best, nobody comes close, go america, everyone worships us, we rule!"

but yeah, that irony hasnt been lost on me. and... MOS?

Uh yeah, MOS.. m.. o.. s.. god my mind went a complete blank. its your job code. Like when I was gonna go into the Army I was a 71D (seventy-one delta) which ended up translating into "legal specialist". Just wondering what you ended up with.

basically its 1N3

there are variations though...

i.e

1N353A Slavic Cryptologic Linguist Russian

1N353D Slavic Cryptologic Linguist Serbo-Croat

1N374G Far East Cryptologic Linguist Korean

1N355A Mid-East Cryptologic Linguist Arabic

there are also ones for romance and germanic languages.

ill probably start out with arabic, although id like russian or a slavic. i figure that germanic (either swedish or german) or romance (italian or french) is pretty out of the question, at least as entry level. lots of good opp for horizontal movement though...

then again, this is all if i do well on the DLAB test (defense language aptitude battery or something)... you need a 69 on the asvab verbal (or whatever) to qualify to take it and i got somewhere around a 90, so i think i ought to do well... if i dont get it, ill look for something else with either intel work or something which offers me an almost guranteed chance to go overseas for extended periods...

Nothing wrong w/ joining the military. I did my time and i am glad i did. I learned more in the five years i served than any teacher or professer could have taught me and I got paid to absorb it all in and apply it to the real world. Which i plan on doing shortly.

If you learn how to play their game then you will do great and get everything you want. [you will know who as soon as you meet them]

Good Luck.
