I just realized I was the only one here from the "Euro" zone, since England doesn't belong to this zone and that there aren't any non-english europeans here (or maybe some dudes in holland).
Anyway, this is freakingly exciting : tomorrow, o the first of January, while getting up and dealing with a serious hangover we'll have to face a brand new currency and this will be such a mess ! Farewelll to our beloved francs, deutsch marks, chillings or whatever other singular currencies.

Now it's the EURO. Now when you buy something you'll have to count up the change for 5 minutes. Queues will be longer, people will be slower, swindles everywhere... A lot of thugs will try to attack the packed up banks, a lot of swindlers will try to rip everybody and their moms off...

So yeah, pray for us, this is gonna be a piece of cake !

i think it kinda sucks. one thing i enjoyed when i was in europe this summer was all the differant kinds of colorful and interesting currencies. granted there are economic pros and cons to the switch, i still would rather each nation had thier own currency. id be livid if i lived over there too, i mean, think if the US, Canada, Mexico and the Central American and Carribean nations all changed to one uniform currency. itd be crap.

If i was affected by this, i don't really think i would like the idea of a change in currency..
Its bad enough when they change a bill into a coin (Loonie/toonie)...its just annoying..arhg.

As you can imagine, it's not only a change in the name but also in the value. For instance one Euro is 6.55957 French Francs. We have to divide all prices by this value to get the new price in Euros (at least till we get used to the value in Euros). Kim looks like she likes the Euro cuz one Euro is almost one dollar (so far..., something like US$ 0.9) so all prices change to "american" prices.

And, Vandal, for coins and notes, there will be a common side and a side for the country that emits it. So in the long run, there will be Euro notes with a greek or finish or irish side on it in my wallet. Fun.

As a reminder (cuz you don't give a shit about this), here are the 12 EUropean Community countries that will switch to Euro :

  • Germany
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Spain
  • Finland
  • France
  • Greece
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Netherlands
  • Portugal

UK, Danemark, and Sweden didn't get into the Euro thingy.

Man, all of the planning for this Euro switch and it seems that many of the bugs are not worked out. I do not envy you David, afterall, I HATE getting Canadian money. Sure it's pretty with all of the colors, but c'mon now, they are only beer certificates...

I wouldn't say I like it, I'm pretty much just indifferent, that's all.
