OK, so it's December, and for want of anything better to do, I suggest this. Your bests and worsts of 2005 - Music, Film, Television etc. Bonus points for creative categories...

I'll kick off proceedings.

Music - Hands down winner is Lagwagon's Resolve. It's an amazing record dedicated to THE best punk drummer ever, Derrick Plourde. Really quite touching, and very sad.
Honourable mentions go to The Blood Meridian, Rogue Wave, Ben Folds, The Decemberists and Sufjan Stevens.
And for what it's worth, this year I got into Neutral Milk Hotel and Big Star and I'm kicking myself for not finding these two earlier.

Film - Crash & The Descent spring to mind as I only bought them on DVD recently... I thought The Life Aquatic was dump.

TV - LOST! My Name Is Earl! (Does nobody else like this?! It's excellent!!) Too much bad TV to choose from, but Celebrity Love Island pretty much tops it in terms of the shitstakes.

Tragic Losses - Derrick Plourde, Mitch Hedberg, John Peel, George Best. Celebrity bonus death - The Pope.

There you go. Waste 5 minutes of your life and reply.

Ok...I'll play along, except that the years tend to bleed together for me so I might be a year or two off...
Let's see...

Music...Well, The Hold Steady w/ separation sunday, is amazing of course, because they are good friends of mine. Also, the new New Pornographers is pretty good. Hmmm...what else? I'm blanking

Movies...A Very Long Engagement...was that this year? maybe not. I just saw Capote and that was good. Other than that, I don't get to see movies anymore.

TV...I am also a huge fan of LOST and I love The Office, which is only funny, I think, if you work in an administrative environment, or have had a boss exactly like that character. I also like Project Runway.

Tragic Losses...I also loved Mitch Hedberg, who was originally from here and I saw perform a few years ago. The bass player for Soul Asylum died way too young this year and they were an amazing band, also from Mpls/St. Paul, that I saw a million times when I was young and before they were nationally known.

How about good reads...of course, I can't really think of any books from this year because I always read old books for some reason. I just read A Prayer for Owen Meany, which was awesome.

Lastly...maybe best memory from the year...of which I have way too many this year to think of just one.

Hey, such is the burden of getting old. It happens to the best of us. But it does mean we're more wise when it comes to annual surveys.

And for what it's worth, the original English version of The Office is FAR superior... in my eyes anyway.

And Owen Meaney is THE best book ever written. Fact. Period. End of. If you haven't read it yet, you're missing out.

Best memory of the year - maybe my camping holiday, or our first Royal River gig/camping weekend or the day I won £472 in court from the cunt who fucked up my face and my car.

Weeeeeehaw! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone..

Letsee...

Music wise.. I am totally out of the loop, its so sad. I dont know any new bands, any promising bands, any.. anything!

I think Green Day - American Idiot came out in 2005, and if so it was one of my favorites. Otherwise I spent MOST of 2005 revisiting old CDs or just now discovering great old songs from the 80's (70s even!). Man, Queen kicks some ass I never knew about! So yeah, pathetic. I still liked those Royal River mp3s though

Film... eek. I saw King Kong and I liked it, it was enjoyable but I wont see it again until DVD. Chronicles of Narnia was nice, since I had read the books as a kid, it was exciting seeing it all play out but nothing super special. With ticket prices so high I barely get to the theater anymore. One MAJOR highlight this year was Batman Begins, most probably my film of the year, it was beyond awesome. Best film EXPERIANCE... getting totally shitfaced during a screening of the DooM movie, I swear at the time, it was the best movie EVER. Wow.

TV.. LOST!!*#$!@%&#$ Discovered it on bittorrent and ate it up.. now im hooked on season 2. I love my CSI.. Aqua Teen Hunger Force.. Mythbusters.. STARGATE (and ATLANTIS) of course, Family guy etc etc. I also just recently discovered I owned the 1st season of SCRUBS, which is an amazing show and I must own them all now!!

Tragic Losses? Nothing really.. another year of my life. I didnt know anyone really who died, take THAT death!! (croak)

Well yeah.. 2005 went real fast for me, and I anticipate 2006 will as well, heck by the time you finish reading this it'll be 2008 I'm sure.

Hope this finds everyone well and safe.

... now back to my XBOX 360 sessions.. drool...

What's up with this LOST frenzy?
I got hooked up too (and we have to wait till mid January for the 10th episode of season 2...) but, although the characters may be attaching, I think this is the dumbest series ever.

Still, I'm hooked up.
Why Dumb? Because they (the writers) keep on creating a lot of mysteries but never care about the "following-on". E.g, remember, the huge monster in the beginning of season 1? And the polar bears? Long forgotten. Everyone ventures within the jungle without even being scared. And the monster that made the ground shake and the trees lie down has strangely disappeared.

It's just as if they bring in a huge load of new ideas and mysteries to keep the audience hooked up. But it's too much for me, I'm fed up.

In one word, this series tend to be INCOHERENT.

The only good point is that they don't hesitate to kill characters (maybe they found out they were too shalow or the actors wanted a too high rise, dunno).

Everyone says that LOST is way out of the league of good series such as 24.

I'm addicted to "Malcolm in the middle" but yeah, it's been on air for 7 years now, so it's off topic.

Yeah 24 is insane, INSANE. That show is in its own class by itself. I never watched the first three seasons when they were on TV.

Then I got them all on DVD and blew through three seasons (72 hours! not really, more like..60) in 4 days.. I was ADDICTED! But soo good.. drool.

Jack Bauer is my hero!

Lost is totally uber rockzorz, and thank fuck it's back on US telly and more importantly, thank fuck for torrents. God bless the mostly illegal internet.
Also, what the hell about Prison Break and My Name Is Earl!?!? How good is that shit?! I'd also mention season 2 of the 4400 but it was pretty shit right up until about the last 30 seconds of the final season 2 episode. I want crazy futuristic aliens with supernatural abilities, not the fucking OC!!

On the subject of 24, are any of you guys watching the new season? Even though its basically the same plot from two years ago, it's still pretty awesome. With that said, I hate President Logan with a passion. He's so smarmy and dumb. Gagh. But at least Jack is still looking good and killing people left and right. Ow!

Hello people of Nethijinx... two words - PRISON BREAK!! How fucking good is that show!? And how dare they make us wait til March to find out the conclusion?! Damn their shitty schedules! But man, it's A, May, Zing. Over and out, luv from Ewan.

Also, isn't LOST up for a third season now? Just get them off that fucking island already! Don't build an army, build a fucking boat!
