Bill Requires Skateboarders To Wear Helmets

Like they are like totally like taking away our like rights, like yaknow?! DAMN THE MAN!

Heh but I thought I'd harkon back on our poseurpunkerfashion for a minute, lest we lose ourselves in our own grown-up-ness.

Woo Hoo!

aeropostale

What prep label are you?

...anyway ...

Y'know...I've been skateboarding for over half my life (about 17 years now)...and I've never worn a helmet for just pushing along in the street...actually the only time I've ever worn a helmet was when I was forced to at a privately owned skatepark...I'm not saying that I'm against helmets or anything, but I think skaters (when I say skater I mean skateboarders) know the risks of thier chosen endeavor...let them use their better judgement when they're just out pushing it around...besides out of all the skaters treated (some 80,000 last year or someting) did they actually state how many of those injuries were head trauma?...I'll wager money that most of the injuries treated (let's say over 60% for shits & giggles) had nothing to do with head trauma...I'll bet most were ankle or wrist related or kids racking thier sacks on handrails...

...anyway...my little rant for the evening.

[EDIT: I gotta fucking learn to type...or use spell check.]

Well its the same thing as Bicicles I guess, and since people under 18 are not "adults" they dont know "whats best for them" so thats why these laws exist. And while I do see some merit in it, since there are a googleplex of idiots out there, some rules are nice. But oh well, I guess there cant really be a gray area in law and order. F THAT!

Maybe if parents could sign something saying their kids can kill themselves if they wish? I dunno.

Can I be LORD HELMET!

But yeah, I think children should wear protective gear 24/7. They hurt themselves and cry way to frequently. And while your at it can we put muzzles on these helmets? (present companies children {present and future} excluded, of course)

...reminds me of the scene in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (I believe it's one of the deleted scenes actually) when they're on the bus and the kid with the helmet just starts going off...I was fucking rolling after that scene...

...on an unrelated note...seems as if I'm becoming a Board Whore again <---Whore Face

believe it or not, a lot of schools have already...(banned dodge ball that is), because apparently it's a self-esteem issue which is total bullshit, in my opinion. but then i've always thought that the concept of self-esteem is in itself bullshit, so i supposed i'm biased...

I used to work with kids. We had to not let the kids play dodge ball anymore cuz they got wayyyy too competitive and would seriously try to hurt each other.

i can understand that aspect of it, the trying to avoid injuries...(me being a frequent visitor to the nurse's office after recieving more than my fair share of soccer balls to the nose) but banning it because of self-esteem just seems really petty.

This is a little off subject and maybe this has already been discussed, but I just rented Dogtown and Z Boys last weekend. Makes me very jealous that I didn't grow up in a California beach town!
Very cool movie. But, even for how crazy these dudes were, I do believe that I saw some of them wearing helmets...

That movie was so cool!...having grown up in California pretty much all my life (aside from the 1st year) I was fortunate enough to be a part of the 3rd and 4th waves of the skateboarding scene and all throughout my involvement, I'd always hear stories from the "older guys" (guys from the generation depicted in the documentary) about how innovative and fun that era of skateboarding was...the great thing was that no one was concerned about sponsorship or where the sport would take them...they skated for the love of it, for the desire to progress the sport and besides what else were they gonna do if they couldn't go surfing...

I met Stacy Peralta a couple of times when I was a kid (around 14-16)...he was running Powell/Peralta skateboards back then...I had overheard him talking to one of the skaters on the team (I think it was Frankie Hill)...anyway...the kid was all in a funk becasue he wasn't doing well in the demo so Stacy Pulls him aside and reminds him that this is all supposed to be fun..."Go have fun" he said...now, for me to hear this at that time was a real eye opener...at that age, all I did was skate...I was determined to get sponsored, to go pro...I even picked up a shop sponsor and was on my way...but there were times that I'd push myself so hard that I'd lose track of the main goal of skateboarding...to have fun...needless to say, I never went pro, I gave up the shop sponsorship whne I moved away to go to college...but to this day, I still skate and I think I enjoy it now more tha I ever did...because now I'm not pressuring myself to fulfill a goal when I sate, I'm just having fun...

...whoa...tangent.

...anyway...I don't wear a helmet....and I really enjoyed that film...it gave me a better understanding of the roots of my sport since I merely tried to follow in the footsteps of those who came before me....

i've lived in coastal california all my life, and i rarely see cool shite like in dogtown and z boys.
back to the dodgeball issue, i work in a daycamp, and the kids aren't allowed to play it there either. and not red rover. one year they played red rover and this kid with braces ran into another kid and ripped his forehead up with em.
so yeah.
