so today I started a job at a local horse ranch that gives trail rides and things like that. It was just an internship to see if I decided I wanted to do it...the pay is only $5.15, but I figure, hey, I love horses. It will be worth it.

I've been riding (and grooming!) horses for 9 years..so I feel pretty confident in my ability. I get there this morning at 8 am, and they ask me if i know how to groom, i say yes, so they hand me a brush and a curry comb (a curry comb is a round brush that digs all the deep down dirt out of the horses hair.) and I go to work. I was doing my job, when one of the lady comes over and starts yelling at me..."YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO CURRY IN CIRCLES! JUST IN A STRAIGHT LINE!" (which, by the way, is wrong.) she then proceeded to tell me I was just being cocky because I had done this before.

now, I also noticed about 75% of the horses there had open sores on their back (due to dirt rubbing under the saddle) which means, they aren't grooming right. also, all of these horses were so tighytly packed together in this barn you couldnt fit between them to groom. it was just awful the way they treated these animals.

the rest of the day I was treated like an idiot and talked down to and made to shovel poop.

AUGH! my last 3 jobs have all been awful like this.

anyone got any good bad job stories?

eh, when I was 15 I worked in a fruit and vegetable market. It wasn't bad really, until my two favorite people there got fired because the boss said they were selling drugs out of the back of the store. That, and it was one of my responsibilities to bleach the walk-in freezer, and being trapped in a closed, freezing room with bleach fumes = no fun.

I worked in a Lisa Frank store, which wasn't so bad except that I was considered the boss for 3 months, yet they would not officially hire me as the boss because of my age. So they paid me a "keyholder" wage, yet paid no one either the manager or asst. manager wage, therefore I got screwed in the whole pay area thing. Suckage.

(although we did HAVE a boss... just one day when I arrived and she was supposed to be opening, she had not... showed up. I called her house and no one answered. She never showed up again. that was a bit weird)

Also, I managed an Afterthoughts, which was actually a good job (and I was surprisingly a very good manager hehe). *BUT* the suckiest thing was when these prissy moms would bring in their newborns and want you to pierce their ears because they would shreik and cry and make you feel really guilty.

(actually, the suckiest thing was when these prissy moms would bring in their toddlers, who would sit still for you to do the first ear cause their mean moms told them it wouldn't hurt, then it hurts, and their moms still want you to do the second ear against the kid's will and are like trying to hold their kid's head still and all that... it makes you feel so evil )

damn, that lady is a dumbfuck. if it's bad enough, report them to one of those societies. but if they've got food, water, and shelter, they can't & won't do anything.

there's nothing wrong w/ shoveling poop, by the way...that's what i'm doing these days just a couple mornings a week though.

Jesus Christ, you should report those people to animal rights people because that is just wrong. Obviously they shouldn't be around horses or any other animal if they don't know how to treat them properly. Assholes. I also think you are getting jipped with your pay because that is quite the physically demanding job.

Anyhow, right now I am doing an office job. I sit at a desk for 8 hours a day and transfer files into new folders, and I answer the phone. It's not such a bad job and it doesn't pay too shabby, so I try not to complain to much, but sometimes I get the most retarded phone calls. Like the other day, apparently there was a wild pig heading into town, and like 5 people called it in and were yelling at me. So finally I said "what exactly do you expect me to go about a wild pig? do you want me to physically leave my desk and hunt it down? are you mental?" ah, at least i keep myself amused at work.

you could say i do at least.

unfortuneatly, Melissa is right about them having food and shelter. I think the laws regarding animal rights are pretty loose. Its sad...I am going to see what I can do. They've been in business for a good 40 or so years, so I'm assuming they meet all the health standards.

as for pay, they can pay that much even if it is a physically demanding job. People who love horses will seriously do anything just to work with them or around them. its pathetic, really

I've never had a job I didn't really like all around. I've always had alright people to work with and decent pay.

first job: Walgreens (cashier) - very laid-back. all I had to do was ring peoples stuff up when they were done shopping. and if I closed I had to sweep the floor. so easy. got paid $7/hr with a .50 raise after like 3 months.

second job: Sam's Club (cart boy) - I just pushed carts from the parking lot back up to the front of the store. very easy except in the summer because it gets so hot and humid here (outside Nashville) that it became really tiring in June and July. I didn't have to deal with customers though because I worked outside. I couldn't work inside as a cashier because I was 17 and no one under 18 could operate machinery. yeah...a cash register was considered 'machinery.' started at $8/hr and ended at like $8.35

third job: Media Play (movies) - I worked in the movie/DVD section of Media Play. inside all the time, just got to hang out and look at movies. had to help customers, but it was pretty easy. except I started having to meet daily and weekly quotas on selling stupid shit like a DVD holder. if a customer got pissed at me, I'd just direct them to a manager and walk off. if they insisted on talking to me I just would tell them that there is absolutely no chance that i could get the movie they wanted and walk away. I caught like 5 or 6 people stealing there; they always stole either porn or anime, it was weird. only got paid $6.50 this job.

current job: Lawn Service (worker) - I just stay outside at a lawn service...don't mow any lawns or anything. when a truck with the real workers comes in, I just unload all the equipment like weed eaters, blowers, trimmers, etc. into a storage bin and fill the trucks up with gas if they need it. I work there from 2-7 every weekday. don't have to get up early, and I don't work late so its cool. only downside is the summer time and sometimes I have to unload cut up trees and bushes and stuff and it takes forever. did I mention the heat and humidity? jesus it's so humid here. best thing though, no customers, and low low stress. I also get paid $8.75/hr and that's pretty cool. just racking up college spending money...

I worked in a place called Pollard Banknote. They produce lottery tickets. So basically, I would stand by a conveyer belt and place tickets on the line. It sucked it was so boring. Then one day one of the machines cought on fire. Every one stood there and watched as I opened the doors into the motor, no one grabbed and exstiguisher, so that was shitty.

Needless to say I only worked there for about 10 days.
