I am finally quiting. After 5 and a half months of dealing with bitchy old people, soccer moms, and white trash food stamp users, I am finally quiting my job at Wesselman's Grocery Store. I am putting in my two weeks notice tomorrow.

That brings me to my question. Where is a good place for a 16 year old to work? I don't want to work fast food, and I am sick of being a cashier. Any information is helpful.

best buy, http://www.bestbuyretailjobs.com

ive worked there for like 7 months and its quite chill. non-commission and we just kinda fuck around a lot. i worked at Subway for a year beofre that and it was ok, just making sandwhiches is really easy and its not as trashy as like McDonalds or BK and such. Retail is always fun!

Best Buy was my friend's suggestion. He has worked there for about 3 months and he already makes about 8 dollars an hour. I make 6 dollars an hour. I think I might apply there.

*edit* and discounts are a plus.

yea, i started off at 8, and after my first 90 days i got a 3 percent raise, which doesnt sound much but was 21 cents, not too shabby. but the discounts rock, anything in the Car Audio department is over 50% off, sooo dope! i love my job, especially cause no one wants to buy a comp now, especially when its 90+ degress out

if you don't mind working in the sun, or doing some physical labor, get a job at a lawn service. I work at one, and I don't do any actual lawn work. I just stay at the place from 2-7 or 2-8 monday through friday and when the trucks come in with the people who actually do the work, I just unload all the weed eaters, tillers, blowers, lawn mowers, etc. off the trucks and put them in a security storage container. and then if they need it, I take the trucks to a gas station which is like 1/10 of a mile away and fill them up with the company card. it is extremely easy and I get $8.70/hr (that's what I started at). it's laid-back (family business) and out of the 5 or 6 hours I'm there, I actually work about 1 or 2 total time. the only hard part is unloading huge ass tree branches and stuff that they have cut down. but it's easy nonetheless.

working retail is alright; I worked at Media Play for like 4 months, but some customers are such assholes I can't stand it. and the thing about Media Play (and Best Buy since they're owned by the same company) is that the managers are pressured by the corporate offices to sell certain items (a quota) so they pressure you to do it too, which is really annoying. it gets tiring walking up to people and asking "would you like to buy a ________?" it's pretty relaxing working inside though, but the pay was kinda shitty ($6.25). I've also worked at Walgreens ($7.00) and Sam's Club ($8.35), and the best by far has been the lawn service.

fuck best buy and fuck all of best buy's employees. they are the biggest anal sore in the retail world. i will never again buy anything more than an off the counter product, such as a dvd or cd, from best buy. i go in the store at any given time of day, be it 8:30 on a tuesday, or 2:00 on a saturday, and there is not more than 2 registers open, with about 35 employees walking around aimlessly, all about 17 years old! what do you people do there? are you paid to mingle with your buddies? it's like fuckin day care. i could be walking around with a wad of cash in my hands, and nobody would know what to do. customer service is non-existent, and if you do get some, all they try to do is sell you the service plan. i made the mistake of building and buying a computer from best buy a year ago. biggest mistake of my life. so basically, fuck best buy. go to circuit city. they actually have employees who WORK.

if this is what it's like nation wide, then i could see why you would want to work at best buy.

Well, I turned in my two weeks notice tonight at around 7:00, and then my friend and I went to Best Buy because he was going to see osme friends there. I looked around and also noticed 2 cashiers working and every one else walking around. My friend also says the managers are strict there. I didn't like the looks of that, so I went back to the grocery store and took my note down.

The store may suck, but I'm not ready for ass hole managers that force me to work. I'm used to walking around and talking and goofing off and stealing food. I think I'll just ask for fewer hours.

get a job as a busser in a fairly nice restaurant.
the expo/setters at the place i work make 8/hr and get about 50 in tips. it's crazy.
and unfair, cause if i wasn't so afraid of dropping a tray with super expensive dishes, then i'd be set.

if you're not a tiny little boy, you can be a mover. i just dont know if they hire under 18.

also, try sales. telemarketers make too much for their own good. but most places wont hire under 18 unless you're only taking incoming calls.

anyways, restuarants are the way to go.

my friend got a job at Dell answering phones (technical support) and he really doesn't know shit about computers...he gets $10.50/hr plus an instant $5 addition to his check for every person he signs up to MSN or AOL or something... very profitable. he's only 19 too.

Hm...a Best Buy is opening up near me. Maybe I should apply. My mom wants me to be a waitress, but I dunno if I wanna be that hard-working.
